CITY GUIDE / AIOICHO 4-CHOME
What kind of place is
Aioicho 4-chome?
Just north of JR Kobe Station, restaurants, izakaya, bars, salons, hotels and workplaces overlap within a compact everyday neighborhood.
KOBE STATION NORTHAIOICHO 4-CHOME
01 / KOBE STATION NORTH
Cross Kobe Station,
and the city changes.
South of JR Kobe Station are Harborland and the waterfront. Step out on the north side and the scenery shifts toward an everyday mix of restaurants, homes and workplaces. Aioicho 4-chome is a compact part of that north side. It feels less like a sightseeing stop and more like somewhere to grab lunch, drop into a bar or wander between local places.
Eat & drink
Yakitori, izakaya, ramen, Japanese and Chinese food, bars and more. The neighborhood changes from lunch to late evening.
Life & work
Salons, clinics, accommodation, coworking spaces and local businesses sit alongside the food scene.
Easy to walk
The area is compact enough to compare several places on foot instead of treating each shop as an isolated destination.
02 / SMALL BLOCK, MANY USES
More than a collection of shops:
everyday life overlaps here.
What makes AIYON interesting is that the neighborhood is not built around food alone. People eat, drink, work, stay and live within the same few blocks. That is why this guide will keep adding not only shop pages, but also ways to eat, drink, walk and understand the neighborhood itself.
03 / RAILWAY MEMORY
Near Kobe Station,
railway history is close by.
This is not a single history of Aioicho 4-chome itself, but the wider Kobe Station and Aioicho area carries an important story from modern Kobe’s railway era.
According to Kobe City Museum, Aioi Bridge was built just east of Kobe Station as an overpass when the railway opened. It became a well-known place where people gathered to watch steam trains. The bridge was removed in 1931 when the railway was elevated. Kobe City Library also preserves an 1880 city map made for people arriving in Kobe by rail, with Aioi Bridge shown on it.
04 / WALK AIYON
First time here?
You do not need a strict plan.
Exit JR Kobe Station to the north and start with one place that catches your eye. Eat, drink, browse local shops or open the map — any route works.

“A short walk north of the station, and you’re already in AIYON.”
